Admission requirements and assessment of previously acquired knowledge/competences

To be able to profitably attend the 2nd Cycle Degree Programme in Tourism Economics and Management, students must possess the following knowledge:

- fundamental elements in disciplines of business, economics, legal and mathematic-statistical areas

- knowledge of English language (B2 level).

Admissionto the 2nd cycle degree programme is also subject to the possession of the following curricular requirements:

- A 1st cycle degree in one of the following classes, or other suitable qualification obtained abroad -

a. ex Italian Ministerial Decree no. 270:

o L-18 Scienze dell'economia e della gestione aziendale/Business studies;

o L-33 Scienze economiche/Economics

o L-15 Scienze turistiche /Tourism studies

b. ex. Italian Ministerial Decree no. 509/99:

o 17 Scienze dell'economia e della gestione aziendale/Business Studies;

o 28 Scienze economiche/Economics

o 39 Scienze turistiche/Tourism Studies

c. Previousfour-year degree programme system:

o Degree qualification achieved in any Faculty of Economics or other qualification with the same legal value

d.Three-year university degree:

o University degree achieved in any Faculty of Economics or other qualification with the same legal value.

If no degree certificate and/or above-mentioned credits have been obtained, admissionto the 2nd Cycle Degree Programme is subject to assessment by a Board to ascertain the required skills and competencies through the assessment of the candidate's curriculum and any useful documents.

The Board,assigned by the Degree Council will schedule deadlines from February through December. The schedule will be published on the University of Bologna website.

If the Board considers the candidates' level of knowledge and skills to be satisfactory, graduates will be allowed to enroll in a test to assess their personal competences and skills as follows.

Assessment of knowledge and language skills

Admissionto the degree program is subject to the assessment of knowledge and skills in the English language, attested with B2 level certification.

Student sholding: a corresponding language certification, graduates in a degree program taught in English, English native speakers and graduates in English language and literature and equivalent, and graduates with a minimum of 30 cfu in transcript of records, for teaching activities taught in English may be exempted from sitting this exam.

The Degree Program may require students to recover any initial deficit by December 31, if they are assessed to below level B2 on admission.

Assessment of personal competences and skills

Admission to the 2nd Cycle Degree Programme is subject to the possession of the described curricular requirements and to the passing of a test to assess the students' personal competences and skills. The assessment of the candidate's application will be done by the same Board mentioned above, on the basis of: his/her curriculum, the evaluation of the previous degree, motivation letter and anyother useful documents that the candidate may submit.

Programme profile

The 2nd cycle degree programme in Tourism Economics and Management aims to provide graduates with the competences required to fill highly qualified professional roles of responsibility in tourist destinations and tourism companies, tour operators, travel agencies, hospitality, tourist attraction and events organisation firms, nationally and internationally. Given the transversal nature of tourism, the graduates' skills will cover both the understanding of economic phenomena in the interaction between company and tourist destination, and accounting and strategic business management.

Coherently with the specific research traditions of the School of Economics, Management and Statistics in these areas, the degree programme provides knowledge concerning advanced micro- andmacro-economic modelling for the application of significant categories to understand and act on economic facts of tourism, balanced by business knowledge including management control, cost analysis and financial reporting, marketing strategies and work organisation of tourism businesses. Particular attention will focus on the concept of system governing the economic organisation and supply chain of tourism destinations, the organisation of events for cultural tourism, also with a view to sustainable tourism. The programme also aims to provide technical and quantitative knowledge of territorial programming and tourism flow forecasting, as well as the study of administrative law for local tourism systems organisation.

FUNCTION IN A PROFESSIONAL CONTEXT:

Administrative directors of a tourismcompany manage the administrative activities of the firm.

• They manage and supervise the company'sadministrative activities, from general accounting to drafting the financialstatements, from financial analyses to tax management.

• In particular they ensure the correctmanagement of general accounting records, compliance with statutoryrequirements for invoicing, liaison with banks, analysis of financial results,manages and approves tax returns.

• In charge of administrative planning andcontrol, they oversee the accounting system, invoicing, draft financialstatements and supervise the general administrative matters of the company.They:

• Oversee economic data analyses requiredfor planning, budget and statistical analyses, reporting;

• In charge of budgets and control, defineand oversee the management control and analyses the levers available toincrease the profitability of contracts and projects, manage internal costcontrols and production budgets;

• Draft budget forecasts and financialstatements; Draft and control the financial statements, and monitor the returnson the company's security portfolio;

The activities performed focus on the strategic researchof the best possible adaptation of national and international tourism servicesto meet demand, promoting the territory and its resources.

• Destination Managers also contribute tothe definition of destination marketing and promotional policies, withbudgetary autonomy.

• They promote a specific touristdestination on key markets using a systemic approach, considering the variousneeds of the tourist (mobility, catering, entertainment, safety,...), enhancingthe specific character of the destination and transforming them intocompetitive advantages.
